ParticipantI know we have the Facebook messenger groups, but not everyone uses Facebook (or wants to); Zoom is great for the hosted write-ins for people who have the paid version, but if you have the free version you can only host for 40 minutes which is not ideal for write-ins.
Is there any thought to doing a Discord server for chatting and write-ins? There are a couple of bots that you can add to servers that facilitate writing sprints. (Writer-Bot and Sprinto are the 2 I use in my server but I think there are others.)
Slack is also an option, I guess, but I don’t know if there are any bots for writing on there. Also I think it costs money at a certain point.
I’m not sure what other chat apps people are using these days so there might be a better suggestion; I just suggest Discord because I’m in several for writers and it seems to work pretty nicely for that. Our Nano region uses it as well to host write-ins as our region is “other” so it refers to basically the entire province.
(If there is no desire for a discord / ability but having discord-based write-ins is something people are interested in, I’m happy to open up my author/reader’s group discord to fellow cookie bakers.)

ParticipantSlack is a lot like Discord in setup and functionality; it tends to be used more for businesses or “teams”, and you do have to pay at a certain point.
I haven’t run my own Slack really, but I’m in one for Passion Planner Ambassadors. I haven’t found any similar bots like Writer-Bot or Sprinto for Slack, though I haven’t looked very hard.

ParticipantI use both Discord and Slack. I tend to lean toward Slack for easier over time, but I am starting to get more comfortable with Discord. Some of the bot stuff and sprint setting stuff I have not figured out yet or what to do, but I may learn soon.

ParticipantI do like a lot of things about Slack as well and I can definitely see how it’s easier over time. Though Discord seems to be catching up to the things that Slack does well, as with threads.
I did search through the app directory for Slack again to see if there was anything for sprinting, and found a Sprint Bot. It doesn’t say it’s for writing specifically but I wanted to try it out and see how it did for that.
However when I tried to add it to my server (that I started basically so I could play around with the free version and see if it was viable) the company wanted a bunch of info from me and I just noped out of there really quick.
So, so far as adding bots to a server, Discord wins for me at this point, because they don’t ask for my name, company profile, or anything else.

Participantok, I had so much fun in Zoom chat today and I have so little impulse control that I went ahead and created a server for us and invited a couple of writing/sprinting bots.
@Tammi if it’s something you have interest in but no time I’m happy to run it for now and then turn it over to you later, or if you have no interest in running it it can just be a side, member-run thing. I’m easy. *cough*
I’ll reply to this post with the invite link. it’s open for 7 days so if you don’t get to it in time just let me know.

ParticipantThere was no email as far as I know. Katje van Loon has created the server and shared the link in a post above. Look for her post #13944 from April 6, 2022 at 6:15 am. The link’s text is “Cookie Bakers Anonymous”.
